Ohio Children's Trust Fund
The Ohio Children's Trust Fund provides funding through the Medina County Family First Council to support child abuse and neglect prevention efforts. Six agencies are currently funded through this grant process and provide prevention services to families of Medina County.
Program Service Name -
Adversity to Triumph Pilot Program
Implementing Agency -
The Children’s Center of Medina County
The Child Advocacy Center serves children every week who have been victims of sexual abuse. The Adversity to Triumph Pilot Program is a two tier project designed to empower the non-offending caretaker and front line professional working with the child victim. Mentoring and training will improve monitoring skills and communication techniques, learn why a child’s behavior changes and how to respond appropriately. Group participants will identify their needs and risk factors, discuss alternatives to these behaviors and implement individual plans to reduce and prevent further abuse. Individual child and family outreach is coordinated through the medical component of the Child Advocacy Center.

Family Abuse Prevention Project
IMPLEMENTING AGENCY -
Battered Women's Shelter
Daily the Battered Women's Shelter sees the effects of domestic violence in our community. Families arrive at our shelter at a very high level of stress, low level of coping, and extreme vulnerability. It is critical to provide shelter residents with educational and supportive information before their children become targets of "adult" problems. The BWS prevents child abuse and neglect by offering parents an alternative way of coping and dealing with intense emotions

Through sustained education, support and practice, families will develop healthy coping skills that encourage peaceful family life. The program consists of a series of 24 sessions for parents and children. Childcare and a light meal are provided at each session.

PROGRAM/SERVICE NAME - Lodi Resource Center
IMPLEMENTING AGENCY - Oaks Family Care Center
Monitoring children’s activities in a world that encourages youth to be technologically savvy can be challenging. Today parents need to be experienced detectives, technical support professionals and interrogators to be able to keep up with their child’s activities. The Lodi Resource Center provides a safe and confidential place for parents to learn the skills they need to raise their children. Individualized family action plans are developed that actively work to reduce the likelihood of abusive behavior occurring during times of stress. Oaks Family Care Center offers a wide selection of research-based educational materials to help parents learn how to monitor their children’s activities and social development. Free family building activities, counseling, parenting programs and material goods (free diapers, formula, gently used baby items) are provided at the Oaks. In addition, other community agencies such as WIC and the Health Department provide services at the Lodi Resource Center. Family and child focused activities help parents build safer and healthier family relationships.
